The spring/summer collection 2017 by the Austrian-Japanese designer duo rosa mosa combines minimalist design with high-quality materials. The knit accessories of past collections have meanwhile developed into a small clothing line. This season, hand-knit items such as boxy tanks and sweaters in crop or knee-length and stoles supplement rosa mosa’s shoes and accessories and offer the complete look. Inspired by work clothes, the apron dress made of woven banana fiber can be worn as either an apron or a dress. The colors – natural hues as well as rose quartz, navy, and black – combined with subtle forms give the collection a timelessly elegant touch.
All pieces in the clothing line are made of banana fiber and are thus extremely light and breathable. In both Nepal and Japan banana fiber cultivation has a long tradition that goes back to the thirteenth century, but until now it has only played a minor role in the Western clothing industry. This environmentally friendly material, which is similar to bamboo and ramie fibers but softer and at the same time stronger, has a promising future ahead of it. The clothing line is handcrafted by women in Nepal under fair trade conditions. It is important to rosa mosa that production is maintained in this country that is regularly shaken by earthquakes.
The “Bobo” sandal with its flexible wooden sole is a rosa mosa classic and is back this season with uppers made of cotton twine and canvas or leather. High-grade loafers and simple Moroccan sandals round off the classic but carefree rosa mosa summer look. Both models are welt-sewn. The “royal craftsmanship” of welt construction was a common technique in former times, today, however, only a handful of shoe manufacturers still master the skill. By using welt construction and first-class vegetable-tanned leather, rosa mosa produces a shoe that is comfortable and elegant, has excellent wearing qualities, and grows more beautiful over the years.
This season rosa mosa’s bags once again play with traditional forms. Made from high-quality materials, they too are the perfect accompaniment for the casual leisure look coupled with classic elegance. The round “Helmet Bag” was inspired by army cases used for carrying this item of protective head gear. It is crafted from calfskin in black and natural hues. The “Delta” wicker bag made of peeled willow and twine-wound handles is available in shopper bag size.
